Salt water is no friend of marine hardware, but the Minn Kota Riptide is built to handle it. Galvanic corrosion is controlled by the use of a sacrificial zinc anode, a system long used by gasoline outboards. Premium marine grade alloys strengthen and a corrosion free composite shaft protect the rest of the motor. The electronic brain of the Riptide series is fully encapsulated in marine grade urethane to protect the sensitive electronic components.
